Degrees, relevant experience and scientific accomplishments
Tarik Möröy holds a PhD (1987) in biochemistry from the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, Germany. He conducted experimental work for his doctoral thesis at the Institut Pasteur in Paris (1984-1987), and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University in New York (1988-1991).
In 1991, Dr. Möröy returned to Germany and accepted a position as an independent junior group leader (equivalent to an assistant professor) at the Institut für Molekularbiologie und Tumorforschung of Philipps University in Marburg, Germany. At this university, he also obtained his accreditation to supervise research in molecular biology and immunology (1994). In 1995, he was appointed Associate Professor and, in 1996, he was appointed Full Professor in Molecular Cell Biology in the Faculty of Medicine at the Duisburg-Essen University. Here, he worked as a professor and principal investigator at the Cellular Biology Institute (Institut für Zellbiologie, IFZ). Dr. Möröy also held administrative positions while at the Duisburg-Essen University, including Executive Director of the Institut für Zellbiologie (1996-1999, 2002-2005) and Chairman of the Board at the Center for Medical Biotechnology (ZMB) (2003-2005).
In addition to his responsibilities at the Institut für Zellbiologie and the Center for Medical Biotechnology, Dr. Möröy directed many federally- and EU-funded research consortia in Germany. Moreover, Dr. Möröy served as an expert evaluator for Marie Curie training programs in the 6th framework-program of the European Union, and as an external advisor for the Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale (INSERM) in France. He also sat on several scientific advisory boards. Dr. Möröy is fluent in English, French, and German.
