The IRCM possesses recognized expertise in the field of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, primarily in atherosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes, and the predisposition to cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
Cardiovascular disease is an important area of research at the IRCM. These diseases remain the leading cause of death in the western world, despite the development of excellent drug therapies.
In fact, the Institut has gained a sterling international reputation by establishing research programs on hypertension and hyperlipidemia, topics of its most significant studies.
Diseases affecting metabolic activities have been of increasing importance in western societies. This research program has therefore been extended to include diseases related to metabolic syndrome, such as diabetes, obesity and eating disorders.
The link between fundamental research and its clinical application has been at the heart of the IRCM since its inception. This research program therefore includes clinical researchers who have the unique opportunity to follow patients on-site within the scope of their research projects. Learn more about the IRCM Clinic.
