Scientists in this research unit focus on the study of hormones and receptors of gonadotrophic hormones that affect fertility. They have succeeded in developing receptor knock-out mice that are useful in the study of menopause, ovarian cancer and the aging process (obesity, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease and cardiovascular function). Together, Dr. Sairam’s laboratory is studying new pro-inflammatory genes that may be linked to obesity and metabolic syndrome. With collaborators, they are also studying the cardiovascular system of knock-out mice. They are also interested in the development of new markers that can be used in the diagnosis of ovarian cancer and type 2 diabetes/obesity.
