The Metabolic Diseases research unit focuses on endocrinology, dietetics and nutrition. It conducts research on subjects including obesity and diabetes. Thanks to the PROMD research platform’s material, it carries out intervention studies in the fields of exercise and diet in humans.

Visiting scientistMAY FARAJ, Dt.P., PhDTelephone: (514) 987-5655Dr Faraj completed her dietetic training and MSc in Nutrition in 1999 followed by a PhD in Experimental medicine in 2003 from McGill University in Montreal. Her graduate work investigated the regulation of lipoprotein metabolism and adipose tissue and muscle physiology using cell, mice and human models. In 2004, she joined the lab of Dr Remi Rabasa-Lhoret, Department of Nutrition, University of Montreal, as a CIHR-postdoctoral fellow exploring insulin action in human. In 2007 she obtained CIHR New Investigator Award and an academic position as junior scientist in the Department of Nutrition, University of Montreal. She then became affiliated with Clinical Research Institute of Montreal (IRCM) in 2008 as an invited scientist, where she started her clinical research activities funded by CIHR operating grant and CFI leader’s opportunity funds in collaboration with Dr Rabasa-Lhoret and IRCM physicians. Her research focus, both clinical and basic, explores a hypothesis she instigated in 2006 linking the number of apoB-lipoproteins to the promotion and prevention of type 2 diabetes in humans. She is a member of L’Ordre Professionnel des Diététistes du Québec since 1999 and Canadian Diabetic Association.
