Dr. Frédéric Charron will be joining the IRCM team as Director of a research unit in Neurobiology.
Dr. Charron holds a PhD from McGill University, completing his research work under the supervision of IRCM’s Dr. Mona Nemer. His thesis dealt with the molecular analysis of cardiogenesis and the transcriptional regulation of cardiac genes. During his doctoral studies, he held successive fellowships from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and the National Cancer Institute of Canada.
In 2001, he received the prestigious Human Frontier Science Program bursary to pursue a postdoctoral internship at Stanford University, where research was devoted to mechanisms controlling axonal migration, under the supervision of Dr. Marc Tessier-Lavigne. In 2002, he received the highly prized Beckman Senior Research Fellowship, which enabled him to pursue his research as a junior faculty member at Stanford University. Dr. Charron has had several articles published in the most prestigious scientific journals, including three articles in Cell.
Dr. Charron will contribute his valuable expertise in developmental neurobiology and cell signalling to the Institute. His research will be devoted essentially to the mechanisms controlling nervous system development. He will take up his duties in spring 2005.
Welcome on behalf of the IRCM team.
