This research unit is interested in the design and synthesis of selective selectin ligands that could serve as therapeutic agents in the control of inflammation and/or cancer. Cellular adhesion phenomena related to selectins are studied in vitro, and new, more sophisticated biophysical methodologies are being developed. Yvan Guindon and his team are also working on the development of new synthetic methodologies involving the cyclic substrates of radical reactions for use in the preparation of biologically interesting complex molecules. Also in development is a new versatile and convergent approach for the synthesis of nucleoside analogues.
