Why should you give?

Our health holds a prominent place in our society. We would all like
to count on quality healthcare to enjoy our lives to the fullest. We
all hope that medicine will find ways to cure the diseases that afflict
us and those that are close to us. This hope can be expressed,
among others, through the outstanding work that has been carried
out by the team at the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal,
since its founding just over 40 years ago.

It was with great enthusiasm that we agreed to co-chair this major
fundraising campaign of the IRCM Foundation: Give for Life!
We are doing so out of a sense of duty and also out of volition
to continue contributing financially at the highest possible level,
toward the advancement of our health research institutions. Supporting
the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal gives us
an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the advancement
of health research and also to develop the knowledge economy,
so important in expanding the outreach of Montréal and of
Québec as a whole. It is also an opportunity to support an establishment
that is built on academic and scientific excellence.

Together with our colleagues on the Campaign’s board we would
like to invite you to invest generously in the IRCM, to give for
Life!

The IRCM needs your support

In 2007, the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal (IRCM) celebrated 40 years of research and training. During these 40 years, thanks to the outstanding research carried on by its researchers, the IRCM was able to climb to the top and become one of the major biomedical research centres in the country. Forty years during which more than 1,000 young scientists have pursued their graduate or postdoctoral studies at the Institute. Since 1967, our researchers have published more than 5,000 articles in renowned scientific journals and received several prizes and awards. During these 40 years, the IRCM Outpatient Clinic has also developed and today, it welcomes over 20 000 patients each year.

During the year 2007, we have revised our scientific structure and repositioned our research axes based on the Institute’s strengths, the important challenges we will have to face and the guidelines we wish to follow in the future. We will continue to emphasize basic and clinical research, the training of the next generation of researchers and the development of emerging research fields. We need to acquire new research equipment and to modernize our infrastructures so that our research centre remains at the cutting edge of technology. Moreover, we wish to improve our internal scholarship programs to attract more graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Finally, the creation of endowed chairs will allow us to recruit the very best researchers.

All these projects will require considerable investments. Therefore, with the assistance of the IRCM Foundation, we are undertaking a vast fundraising campaign. Spread over a period of five years, this campaign will enable us to further strengthen our role as a leader in biomedical research.

The IRCM needs your support in order to continue to pursue its mission, to carry out projects and to maintain its tradition of excellence. We truly hope that you will contribute to our fundraising campaign.

By contributing to the fundraising campaign of the IRCM Foundation, you will be part of the advancement of research and the training of the next generation of scientists, you will participate in the development of the community, you will give for Life!

The IRCM Foundation

Through its fundraising activities, the IRCM Foundation provides direct support to the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal (IRCM). These funds are used by the Institute to pursue its research projects and training activities, particularly through granting scholarships to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. These funds also help to create and install the new technologies that are essential for the advancement of scientific research. The IRCM Foundation is thus an essential partner for the Institute.

To fulfill its mission, the IRCM Foundation organizes every year two major philanthropic events, the Bilan de santé golf tournament and the annual dinner, which is a fundraising event calling on the support of the patients treated at the IRCM clinic and other generous donors. The IRCM Foundation is privileged to benefit from the support of private partners who become loyal friends of the Foundation and the IRCM over the years.

To further develop the philanthropic culture at the IRCM, the Foundation has recently initiated two come-together activities, the annual IRCM Dragon-Boat race and the philanthropic lunch, which take place in September and November.

The Foundation is proud to support the IRCM. This is why it is addressing today the top business leaders and representatives of community organizations to join us in supporting the scientific projects of the Institute.

The projects for which we ask your support will allow the IRCM not only to meet the challenges in biomedicine in the years to come, but will also ensure the Institute’s position as a top leader in biomedical science in our country.

We are thus soliciting your support as part of this major fundraising campaign Give for Life!, the third campaign in the history of the Institute since its founding in 1967.

Contributing to the IRCM Foundation’s fundraising campaign means supporting important advances in medical research and participating in the growth and success of the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal. It simply means giving for Life!
