About the conference:
Gene regulation depends on the binding of transcription factors (TFs) to their genomic binding sites, which needs to be specific and rapid. The size of the genome, with vast numbers of potentially competing binding sites, challenges the search process through which TF recognize their genomic sites. I will discuss these challenges, and present our results implicating  long intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) as critical determinants of TF binding specificity in vivo.

About Naama Barkai:
Dr. Naama Barkai is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the Weizmann Institute of Science. She was elected as a Member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities in 2018 and received numerous prestigious awards for her innovative work in systems biology, including the Rothschild Prize in Life Sciences (2018), the Abisch-Frenkel Prize (2013), the Helen and Martin Kimmel Award (2007), the Teva Prize (2005), the Michael Bruno Memorial Award from the Yan Hanadiv Foundation (2004) and the Sir Charles Clore Prize (2000). Her recent studies have led to publications in high-calibre journals such as Nature, Science, EMBO, etc.
