Nurse - Lipids, Nutrition and Cardiovascular Prevention Clinic

Summary of Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Operations, Clinical and Clinical Research and to the Lipid Clinic Director, this nurse position has several responsibilities. He/she plays a key role in the coordination of the Lipid Clinic's activities as a pivotal figure in the organization of care within the multidisciplinary team. He/She ensures the smooth running of the Lipid Clinic activities on a daily basis, and ensures the improvement of the patient's care trajectory.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Care Activities

  • Performs initial assessment of new cases: questionnaire, lab collection, imaging, medications
  • Coordinates the patient's care trajectory with the multidisciplinary team (nutritionist, genetic counselor, physicians, students); he/she works closely with the members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Welcomes and accompanies students on internship in the Lipid Clinic in the care process;
  • Explains and obtains consent for genetic testing
  • Performs additional blood sampling required for the evaluation and follow-up of patients, including genetic testing
  • Performs specimen management to laboratories according to the clinic's internal work methodology
  • Participates in the collection of data for the electronic medical record
  • Receives and manages communications from patients followed at the Lipid Clinic and follows up with other health care professionals
  • Ensures the completion and receipt of additional tests requested for patient evaluation
  • Performs patient training regarding injectable medications
  • Implements group prescriptions when applicable
  • Participates in the collection of data required for authorization and renewal requests for injectable medications
  • Coordinates clinical duties with clinical research activities

Training Activities

  • Maintains competency in accordance with the requirements of his/her professional order
  • Participates in training activities in the field of lipid metabolism

Activities related to the management of the lipid clinic and clinical research

  • Participates in Lipid Clinic team meetings
  • Participates in the development of patient assessment algorithms
  • Participates in the development of patient education tools
  • Participates in the recruitment of participants for the Lipid Clinic biobank and performs samples collection
  • Contributes to research activities, including participation in the selection of potential participants
  • Participates to pharmaceutical studies training
  • Participates in pharmaceutical studies in collaboration with the research nurse
  • Maintains up-to-date training in clinical research according to institutional requirements (Good Clinical Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, etc.)

Qualifications

  • College diploma (DEC) in nursing or Bachelor of Science in nursing
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years related experience
  • Bilingualism required (French and English)
  • Mastery of the usual software (Office suite)
  • Member in good standing of the professional order (OIIQ)
  • Experience in academic/pharmaceutical clinical research and knowledge of applicable regulations would be an asset

  • Knowledge of biobank management would be an asset
  • Experience with the Medesync electronic medical record would be an asset

Terms of Employment

  • Regular full-time daytime position, 36.25 hours/week, with occasional evening and weekend work available
