Nurse assistant

Summary of responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Manager of Operation, Clinic and Clinical research, the nursing assistant will be responsible for preparing clinics, greeting patients during clinics, and providing basic care as part of the treatment plan in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary teams of the various specialized clinics of the IRCM to ensure continuity of quality care. This is in addition to duties in support of clinical research.

Main tasks and responsibilities: 

Activities related to clinical care
  • Prepare for clinics (e.g., data collection from DSQ);
  • Welcome patients and participate in patients’ health assessment
  • Take vital signs (e.g., weight, blood pressure) and perform routine examinations (e.g., ECG, 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, continuous glucose monitoring)
  • Participate in the data collection from patients and data entry in the electronic medical record (DMÉ)
  • Participate in training patients and their families (e.g., home blood pressure, blood glucose, etc.)
  • Perform blood sampling
  • Prepare shipments of various types of samples for laboratory analysis
  • Respond to patient calls, identify their needs, and direct information to appropriate professionals
  • Ensure continuity of care in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
Activities related to immunization and screening
  • Participate in vaccination and screening clinics offered to IRCM employees and students
Activities related to clinical research
  • Participate in the identification and recruitment of eligible participants for research protocols
  • Coordinate and conducts blood sampling for research protocols
Activities related to operational management
  • Ensure the follow-up of drug and medical equipment orders
  • Oversee the inventory of the various rooms and medical equipment (expiration dates, calls to representatives, etc.)
  • Assume any other duties assigned by their immediate superior

Training activities

  • Maintain their skills in accordance with the requirements established by their professional order
  • Maintain current training in clinical research according to the requirements of the institution (Good Clinical Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, etc.)
  • Required qualifications:
  • Good clinical judgment
  • Courtesy, empathy and thoroughness
  • Organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Knowledge and abilities:

  • Diploma of vocational studies (DOV/DEP) in Health, Assistance and Nursing Care
  • Member in good standing of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers auxiliaires du Québec (OIIAQ)
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years experience related to the function
  • Dexterity to take blood samples
  • Knowledge of the usual software
  • Functional bilingualism
  • Certification in vaccination is an asset

Conditions of employment:

  • Full-time position (36.25h/week) during the day (Monday to Friday) and possibility of part-time work
  • Contribution to the Régime de retraite des employés du gouvernement et des organismes publics (RREGOP)
