A better approach to rehabilitation
Dr. Racine and his colleagues win the Lindsay 2023 Prize

The IRCM extends its warmest congratulations to Dr. Eric Racine, Director of the Pragmatic Health Ethics Research Unit at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute, and also to researcher Dr. Anne Hudon (project principal investigator) from the Université de Montréal and the Centre de recherche interdisciplinaire en réadaptation du Montréal métropolitain (CRIR) and Dr. Matthew Hunt (co-principal investigator) from McGill University, who have been awarded a grant of $480,000 over three years, with the possibility of additional funding up to a total of $800,000, as part of the prestigious Lindsay 2023 Prize competition.

Announced on June 15 by the Institut universitaire sur la réadaptation en déficience physique de Montréal (IURDPM) of the CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l'Île-de-Montréal and the LRH Foundation, the award will support three major projects, including the one propelled by the team, entitled Programme LEViER: Laboratoire d'éthique vivante en réadaptation, pour aller plus loin ensemble !

Ethical reflection on issues affecting patient rehabilitation helps to advance care contexts throughout Quebec and elsewhere, which is why Eric Racine's work is so crucial," said Dr. Jean-François Côté, President and Scientific Director of the IRCM.

In its decision, the jury highlighted the strengths the project, including the team's relevant experience and multidisciplinary nature, the quality and relevance of the partnerships, the clear and very well-justified methodology, and the potential impact on a diversified clientele.
