Dr. André Veillette awarded a prestigious grant

Dr. André Veillette was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).

Dr. André Veillette is one of the scientists selected this year as International Scholars of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). HHMI is an American philanthropic organization that supports high level biomedical research. This five-year award will total nearly $500,000 USD.

Every five-year, this competitive scholarship program recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding researchers in Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and Venezuela. HHMI launched its International Scholar program in 1991 to acknowledge the international scope of modern biomedical research. In 2006, thirty-nine researchers, chosen from 546 applicants from these countries, were awarded the prestigious scholarship.

Dr. André Veillette is Director of IRCM’s Molecular Oncology research unit. He is the holder of the Canada Research Chair in Signalling in the Immune System, and his work is supported by grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Canadian Cancer Society. Dr. Veillette is also a professor at the Université de Montréal and McGill University.
