IRCM students obtain scholarships

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIRH), the Cole Foundation, and the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS) all announced the results of their latest competitions. Nine students and postdoctoral fellows received a scholarship, a testimony to the outstanding training and research conducted at the IRCM.
 
FREDERICK BANTING AND CHARLES BEST CANADA GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS (CIHR)
Sophie Ziai, doctoral student in the Department of nutrition at the Université de Montréal under the supervision of Dr. Rémi Rabasa-Lhoret at the IRCM, received a Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate Scholarship from CIHR. She received the scholarship for her project: Impact of hyperglycemia and glucose fluctuations on inflammation in Cystic Fibrosis-related diabetes.
 
COLE FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIPS
Doctoral

Damien Grapton, graduate student in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Université de Montréal under the supervision of Dr. Tarik Möröy at the IRCM, received a fellowship from the Cole Foundation for his project: Étude du rôle de la forme variante de GFI1 (GFI136N) dans le développement de la leucémie aiguë myéloblastique.
 
Postdoctoral
Julie Ross, postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Experimental Medicine at McGill University under the supervision of Dr. Tarik Möröy at the IRCM, received a fellowship from the Cole Foundation for her project: Role of the BTB/POZ domain protein Miz-1 in the development of B-cell lymphoma.
 
TRAINING AWARDS FROM THE FRQS
Doctoral

Véronique Gingras, graduate student in the Department of Nutrition at the Université de Montréal under the supervision of Dr. Rémi Rabasa-Lhoret at the IRCM, received an FRQS training award for her project: Le syndrome métabolique chez des adultes atteints de diabète de type 1 (double diabète) : Étude des facteurs de risque et de l’impact de l’amélioration des habitudes de vie.
 
Félix Legendre, graduate student in the Department of Biochemistry at the Université de Montréal under the supervision of Dr. Éric Lécuyer at the IRCM, received an FRQS training award for his project: Caractérisation d’un nouveau mécanisme de localisation des ARN messagers aux centrosomes lors de l’embryogenèse de la Drosophile.
 
Stephen Methot, graduate student in the Division of Experimental Medicine at McGill University under the supervision of Dr. Javier Di Noia at the IRCM, received an FRQS training award for his project: Mechanisms regulating AID subcellular localization in vivo and in vitro.
 
Postdoctoral 
Jennifer Fraszczak, postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Université de Montréal under the supervision of Dr. Tarik Möröy at the IRCM, received an FRQS training award for her project: Effet d’une diminution de l’expression du facteur de transcription 'growth factor independent 1' (GFI1) dans l’initiation et la maintenance des leucémies et lymphomes T.
 
Charles Vadnais, postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Biochemistry at the Université de Montréal under the supervision of Dr. Tarik Möröy at the IRCM, received an FRQS training award for his project: Le rôle du facteur Gfi1 dans la réponse au dommage à l’ADN et la prévention de l’apoptose dans les cellules lymphoïdes.
 
Michael Verwey, postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University under the co-supervision of Dr. Frédéric Charron at the IRCM, obtained the renewal of his FRQS training award for the project: Le rôle de la voie de signalisation Hedgehog dans la plasticité du système dopaminergique.
