Congratulations to Jacques Drouin and Eric Racine who were elected among seventy new 2020 Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
The Canadian Academy of Health Sciences is one of three national academies in Canada to honour scientists in recognition of excellence in health science. Its objective is to provide assessments and advice on important issues affecting the health of Canadians.
Director of the Molecular Genetics Research Unit and Full Research Professor at the IRCM, Jacques Drouin is a Full Research Professor at the University of Montreal and an Adjunct Professor at McGill University. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a recipient of an Honoris Causa degree from the University of Aix-Marseille. His contributions focus on the molecular basis of pituitary function, development and pathologies. He discovered transcription factors that are involved in hormonal deficiencies, and unveiled glucocorticoid feedback mechanisms involved in the hormonal resistance of adenomas that cause Cushing’s disease.
Eric Racine is the Director of the Research Unit on Pragmatic Health Ethics and Full Research Professor at the IRCM, as well as Research Professor at the University of Montreal and Adjunct Professor at McGill University. He is internationally recognized for his contributions to the development of new ethical approaches in health care. He is a member of the board of directors of the FRQ-S, of the CIHR Standing Ethics Committee, and of the International Society of Neuroethics. Author of over 175 peer-reviewed articles and several books, he has supervised the work of over 100 early-career researchers.
