Nurse


Summary of Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of Dr. May Faraj, the nurse is required to use their clinical judgment and skills to perform technical nursing procedures during specialized clinical research trials in obesity and diabetes. They contribute to various clinical tests, including complex physiological tests.



Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Research Activities

  • Provide technical nursing support: blood draws, preparation of infusion solutions, insertion of venous catheters and insulin/glucose pump catheters, and performance of adipose tissue needle biopsies (as taught by a physician);
  • Collect anthropometric and physiological measurements of research participants ;
  • Ensure the continuous assessment, safety, and comfort of patients in the protocols under their responsibility during testing; 
  • Process human biological samples collected during the research protocols;
  • Compile information and document the scope of interventions in patient records;
  • Use clinical judgment to manage out-of-protocol situations and consult the on-call physician when needed ;
  • Participate in maintaining the integrity and cleanliness of the clinical/physiology rooms.


Activities related to the coordination of clinical studies

  • Be responsible for the screening and recruiting of eligible participants for the research protocols ;
  • Address the regulatory and ethical aspects related to research projects ;
  • Ensure the clinical follow-up of patients participating in research protocols ;
  • Participate in the entry and verification of clinical data in the laboratory database ;
  • Collaborate with members of the research and the IRCM clinic teams.


Training activities

  • Maintain current skills in accordance with the requirements established by the professional order ;
  • Maintain current clinical research training according to the IRCM’s requirements (Good Clinical Practice, Standard Operating Procedures, etc.).
  • Supervise new team members regarding clinical research protocols



Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a member in good standing of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ)
  • Must hold a Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in Nursing
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a registered nurse in a hospital setting
  • Knowledge and Skills:
    • Sound clinical judgment
    • Functional bilingualism (French and English)
    • Skilful in inserting venous catheters and performing blood draws
    • Courtesy, empathy, and thoroughness
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Knowledge of standard software and the electronic medical record system

 

Employment Conditions:

  • Three-year contract, with the possibility of renewal
  • Part-time position (3 days per week), daytime hours
  • Public sector pension plan (RREGOP)
  • 6 sick or personal days per reference year
  • 12 vacation days after one year worked in the reference period

  • Salary determined according to the applicable salary scales and experience
