PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The incumbent is responsible for carrying out the construction, repair, and maintenance of wood structures and related materials to meet the organization’s facility, safety, and operational needs.
They contribute to maintaining a safe work environment adapted to research and support activities.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The incumbent:
- Builds, repairs, and maintains frameworks, wall finishes, ceilings, floors, and other structures using wood, metal, or other materials as required;
- Installs and adjusts doors, windows, glass, wall coverings, moldings, interior and exterior finishes, and hardware;
- Designs, installs, modifies, and repairs fixed or movable furnishings according to specifications and provided instructions;
- Reads, prepares, and interprets blueprints, drawings, and sketches; calculates material requirements; plans and completes work in compliance with timelines, budgets, and the Building Code;
- Applies plaster, paint, lacquers, varnishes, stains, and other finishing products;
- Uses, cleans, and maintains required tools and equipment;
- Moves furniture and transports various items as needed;
- Serves as a member of the organization’s fire brigade.
REQUIREMENTS
- Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) in carpentry, plastering, or painting issued by the appropriate ministry, or relevant experience in the construction field;
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction or equivalent experience;
- Valid competency cards (asset).

- Ability to work independently or as part of a small team.
