Research assistant – Sauvageau Lab

The RNA Biology & Therapeutics laboratory at the IRCM directed by Dr. Martin Sauvageau is seeking a motivated and skilled Research Assistant to join our dynamic team. This position involves active participation in cutting-edge research projects focused on the development of RNA-based therapeutic approaches and noncoding RNA biology.

 

Summary of responsibilities

  • Conduct and manage experiments involving mammalian cell culture, transfection, RNA extraction, and RT-qPCR, next generation RNA sequencing.
  • Analyze experimental data accurately, maintain detailed records, and contribute to the interpretation of results.
  • Ensure adherence to laboratory standards and protocols.
  • Assist with the preparation of scientific manuscripts, presentations, and reports.
  • Support lab management tasks, including reagent preparation, ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, and helping with operational organisation of the lab.

 

Required qualifications

  • Having at a minimum an MSc degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related life sciences discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on laboratory experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in mammalian cell culture, transfection techniques, RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, RNA sequencing, and other molecular and cellular biology techniques.
  • Experience with RNA-protein interaction assays as well as antisense oligos and siRNAs is a plus.
  • Experience with coding and RNA sequencing analysis is a plus.

 

Knowledge and skills

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in French is an asset.
