Anticipated start date: Early or mid-April 2026
The IRCM Molecular Biology and Functional Genomics Core Facility provides the Institute’s community and external users with a range of specialized services to address genomics-related needs. This offering, centered on next-generation sequencing (NGS), includes the support for experimental design and the development of customized protocols integrating state-of-the-art technologies.
Summary of Responsibilities
Reporting to the Core Facility Manager, the incumbent will routinely perform Q-PCR genotyping (TaqMan) and next-generation sequencing experiments, including samples’ quality controls, libraries’ preparation and validation, and preparation of sequencing pools.
The role includes planning and executing the experiments, as well as interpreting and communicating the results to the users.
More specifically, the selected candidate will:
- Execute protocols on the samples in accordance with the Core Facility’s quality standards;
- Ensure the quality of the results, identify potential technical issues, and develop corrective solutions;
- Maintain accurate tracking records, documenting samples, associated protocols, equipment parameters, and results;
- Place orders, receive deliveries (consumables and reagents), and ensure proper inventory management and stock storage;
- Operate and maintain specialized equipment and use appropriate software tools for results’ analysis;
- Communicate and explain results to users, supported by proper documentation;
- Train on new methodologies implemented in response to researchers’ needs (scientific literature review and technology monitoring).
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Molecular Biology or Biochemistry, or Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Biological Sciences with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a molecular biology laboratory or core service facility;
- Essential experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS).
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong theoretical and technical knowledge in genomics;
- Demonstrated expertise in nucleic acid preparation (extraction, purification, quantification, quality control), PCR, Q-PCR, and NGS library preparation (implementation, validation, analysis, instrumentation);
- Experience in single-cell sequencing (asset); basic knowledge of cell culture (asset);
- Proficiency with Excel and data bases;
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities;
- Autonomy, initiative, and motivation;
- Ability to adapt to variable sample flow and unexpected situations;
- Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills in both French and English.
