At a time of multiple challenges surrounding the health system as well as patients' rights, it is essential to actively reflect on the links between health, environment and democracy in order to inform our individual and collective choices.
It is in this perspective that the Montreal Clinical Research Institute is inviting the public to its new conference series in health ethics presented by the Pragmatic Health Ethics Research Unit. This interdisciplinary research group founded in 2006 under the direction of Dr. Eric Racine, is continuing the longest tradition of Canadian activities in bioethics which was established at the IRCM in 1976.
Under the theme Towards participatory, inclusive, ecosocial health: How to innovate and build bridges between democracy, the environment and our health care environments, the participation of prestigious speakers will help address the links between democracy and its institutions, on the one hand, and the development of sustainable health, on the other.
Concrete cases
For example, Stéphane Paquin, a Professor at the École nationale d'administration publique (ÉNAP), will present an analysis of the Swedish health system compared to that of Quebec. Pierre Lavoie, the instigator of the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie, will show how our lifestyle(especially physical activity) is intimately linked to our socio-political environments. Marie-Christine Gras, Emmanuelle Catanese and Keryn Chemtob will tell us about the initiative to design and implement a nursing clinic in Montreal, an innovative and instructive experience in democratizing the relationship between health professionals. The marginalization and the inclusion in the context of women's health, the links between sustainable health and prevention, the access to green spaces and to spaces for citizen's voices and the democratic reform of health care systems are just some of the subjects that will be addressed in these free and open to all conferences.
