Animal Welfare: One Step Closer to Certification

Animal Welfare: One Step Closer to Certification

On Thursday, May 29, our facility had the pleasure of welcoming an evaluation visit from the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC), as part of their rigorous certification process. This visit focused on assessing our animal care facilities and represented a key milestone in the recognition of our commitment to animal welfare.

‘‘I’m proud to share that the visit went extremely well. The CCAC team observed firsthand the professionalism and care with which we approach our daily practices. Every animal care attendant, animal health technician, and each dedicated member of the Animal Care and Use Committee (CPA-ACC) worked diligently and with great dedication to prepare for this evaluation.‘’ -Eve-Marie Charbonneau, Manager Animal Facilities and Animal Health

This achievement is the result of remarkable teamwork, constant dedication, and a shared commitment to providing an exemplary environment for the animals in our care.

The CCAC certification process is an ongoing process that requires a continuous, evolving, and collective effort from all individuals involved (members of the scientific community, animal care professionals, and research support staff)."

The IRCM expects to receive the final report in the coming months. If the outcome is positive—as we confidently hope—it will grant us certification in good animal practices, reinforcing our status as a CCAC-certified facility.

Thank you all for your outstanding commitment. Let’s continue to make animal welfare a daily priority.
