Faces of the IRCM - Nedy Mwamba, bring on the challenges!

Nedy Mwamba, Accounting Technician – Accounts Payable

NB: This series of encounters highlights the diversity of the members of the IRCM community, the variety of their expertise and the depth of their commitment to their respective roles

Nedy Mwamba may be new to the IRCM, but his warm smile — which in no way diminishes his seriousness, professionalism, and determination to succeed — is already familiar in our hallways.

He stepped confidently and skillfully into the role previously held for many years by our colleague Martine Maheu, now retired.

“I’ve always had a fighting spirit. Challenges are what drives me. I’m constantly looking for new ones, because where I come from, there aren’t many opportunities for young people. Meritocracy isn’t really a thing, and I wanted to be somewhere where my efforts would be recognized, where I could see the results of my work. When I was offered the position here, I didn’t hesitate. I was truly welcomed at the IRCM. And above all, Martine took the time to show me everything I needed to know to take over.”

It must be said that Nedy was already well equipped for this new chapter in his career. After excelling in his studies at La Cité in the Outaouais, where his hard work earned him notable distinctions, and gaining experience at Santé Québec, he didn’t hesitate to relocate to Montreal to join the IRCM team.

His daily work is diverse, sometimes intense, and requires great attention to detail. He processes reimbursement requests from researchers and manages a significant portion of the Institute’s administrative accounting in close collaboration with his colleague Manon Néron. It’s a substantial workload, but one that doesn’t faze Nedy.

“I also handle what’s called bank reconciliation. It means that I review all the transactions that went through the bank during the previous month and make sure the bank’s records match what I have in our accounting system.”

Nedy warmly highlights the leadership qualities of his manager, Benoit Papineau, who, he says, makes his work much easier.

“What really helped me at the IRCM is Benoît’s leadership. He’s truly a manager who believes in us and encourages autonomy. It’s great working with him because he has a clear vision, and everyone feels comfortable working in their own way, as long as we deliver results.”

It’s a supportive environment that allows Nedy to give his very best, and a reflection of his life philosophy.

“I feel really good here, and in Canada. Honestly, I couldn’t have dreamed of anything better,” Nedy concludes.

With humility, discipline, and an unwavering drive to grow, Nedy embodies a new generation of professionals for whom every challenge is an opportunity to thrive. At the IRCM, he has found fertile ground to let his talent flourish, and our community, in turn, has gained a dedicated and inspiring colleague.

Thank you, Nedy, for your energy and passion.
