Dr. Hideto Takahashi promoted to IRCM Full Research Professor

The Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM) is pleased to announce that Dr. Hideto Takahashi, currently Director of the IRCM's Synapse Development and Plasticity Research Unit, has been promoted to IRCM Full Research Professor. This promotion reflects and rewards the excellence of Dr. Takahashi's research program, and his commitment to training the next generation of scientists, as well as his involvement at multiple levels in the development of the IRCM community and its core activities.

The objective of the Synaptic Development and Plasticity Research Unit is to understand the formation and maturation of synaptic connections in the brain (synaptic development), their modification by experience (synaptic plasticity), and their damage in cognitive disorders and mental illness (synaptic pathology). His work is advancing knowledge of common and disabling neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.
Dr. Takahashi has a well-established reputation as a leading researcher in the field. His publications are numerous and well received, both by his peers and by the mainstream media.
