Honours for two researchers and a Board member from the Institute

Quebec premier Jean Charest announced yesterday the latest appointments to the Ordre national du Québec. Recipients include two researchers and a member of the IRCM Board of Directors.
 
Jean Davignon named Grand Officer
Jean Davignon has served as Director of the Hyperlipidemia and Atherosclerosis research unit, which he set up at the IRCM, for nearly 40 years. An extremely high-profile clinician and popular professor, Dr. Davignon is a pioneer in lipidology research. He is highly regarded internationally for his work on the complex processes involved in diseases related to lipids and the vascular system, as well as his research on pharmacology and the nutritional aspects of these disorders. Dr. Davignon is the co-founder of the Canadian Atherosclerosis Society and the Canadian Association for Familial Hypercholesterolemia.
 
Louis-Gilles Durand named Officer
Louis-Gilles Durand, director of the Biomedical Engineering research unit at the IRCM, was named Officer of the Ordre national du Québec. An engineer who enjoys an international reputation in the fields of biomedical engineering and cardiovascular physiology, Louis-Gilles Durand is renowned for his expertise in the development of non-invasive instruments and methods designed to assess cardiovascular and pulmonary disorders. He has trained several engineers and scientists. Papers on his scientific work and discoveries have appeared in highly regarded international scientific journals, and some have been patented and marketed industrially in Quebec and worldwide, thus enhancing the reputation and economic growth of this province.
 
Louise Lambert-Lagacé named Knight
Louise Lambert-Lagacé is a world leader in the area of nutrition, noted for her pioneering work on the nutritional needs of women and children. Her books, which have been translated into many languages and published in many countries, are valued by everyone who cares about eating healthfully. Ms. Lambert-Lagacé has been a member of the IRCM Board of Directors for the past five years and a member of the Governance Committee.
The Ordre national du Québec is the highest honour awarded by the Quebec government, reflecting the pride Quebecers take in the eminent achievements of exceptional individuals who leave their mark on various sectors of our society and raise Quebec’s profile.
 
The official insignia presentation ceremony will take place on June 20.
