A first PhD thesis defence for the Ferron’s lab

On March 13, 2020, Omar Al Rifai defended his doctoral thesis brilliantly. He is the first student to defend his doctoral thesis in the laboratory of Mathieu Ferron, researcher responsible for the Molecular Physiology Research Unit at the Institute.

Omar joined Mathieu Ferron's laboratory in January 2015, after obtaining a master's degree in biochemistry at the American University of Beirut. Arriving from Lebanon on December 31, Omar quickly adapted to the life and climate of Quebec! Throughout his doctoral studies at the IRCM, Omar distinguished himself by his seriousness, his perseverance and his hard work. He thus won numerous awards and grants, such as the Young Investigator Award from the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research. Omar also distinguished himself by publishing several articles during his doctorate, including an article as first author in 'The Journal of Clinical Investigations' in 2017.

This hard work paid off as the jury recommended that his thesis be considered for the Dean's Honor List. Mathieu Ferron feels to have supervised Omar in his laboratory.

The IRCM community congratulates Omar on his excellent work and wishes him a successful scientific career, at the height of his talent!
