The Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM) warmly congratulates its leading researcher, Dr. Nabil G. Seidah who is the Director of its Neuroendocrine Biochemistry Research Unit, on receiving the 2025 Michel-Sarrazin Prize, awarded by the CRCQ, an organization dedicated to promoting biomedical research in Quebec.
Every year since 1977, the CRCQ has awarded the Michel-Sarrazin Prize to a seasoned Quebec scientist for their outstanding contribution to the advancement of biomedical research.
“Considering the importance of your discoveries in the field of proprotein convertases, in particular your research on PCSK9 which has led to major advances in the treatment of cardiovascular disease through revolutionary new drugs, there is no doubt that you are an ideal candidate to receive this award.” – CRCQ
An Inspiring Career
Dr. Nabil G. Seidah is an internationally acclaimed scientist whose groundbreaking discoveries have significantly advanced the fields of biochemistry and medicine. He is recognized as a global pioneer in the study of proprotein convertases, key enzymes involved in regulating numerous biological processes.
He notably discovered and characterized seven of the nine known convertases, including PCSK9, a major target in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, and more recently PCSK7, which plays a key role in tumour growth and metastasis.
His work has had major repercussions in the understanding and treatment of widespread, deadly diseases such as viral infections, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and associated metastases.
A Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, Dr. Seidah has received numerous prestigious honours, including the National Order of Quebec and the Order of Canada.
Dr. Amélie Fradet-Turcotte – 2025 André-Dupont Award
The André-Dupont Award has been presented to Amélie Fradet-Turcotte, Ph.D., from the CHU de Québec Research Center and the Department of Molecular Biology, Medical Biochemistry, and Pathology at Université Laval.
From 2004 to 2011, she completed her Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the Université de Montréal under the supervision of Professor Jacques Archambault at the IRCM.
This award is presented annually to a young researcher in recognition of the excellence of their work in biomedical research, with no more than ten years of experience as an independent investigator.
The CRCQ – Promoting Scientific Excellence
The 66th edition of the CRCQ’s major annual conference will bring together top-level scientists from October 8 to 10 at Manoir du Lac Delage.
The CRCQ is a non-profit organization whose mission is to encourage and promote excellence in clinical and biomedical research throughout Quebec.
