About this conference:
GABAergic interneurons play crucial roles in regulating neural circuit activity in the cerebral cortex. A hallmark of cortical interneurons is their remarkable structural and functional diversity, yet the molecular determinants regulating their wiring and plasticity remain largely unknown. In this talk, I will describe molecular mechanisms controlling the connectivity and plasticity of fast-spiking PV+ interneurons, a major population of cortical interneurons that are powerful regulators of pyramidal neuron activity and appear particularly vulnerable across a broad spectrum of psychiatric disorders.

About Oscar Marín Parra:
Dr. Oscar Marín is a Professor of Neuroscience at King’s College London (UK), where he is the Director of the MRC Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders. Though his research work primarily aims at elucidating the fundamental mechanisms of brain development and plasticity, his team also investigates the function of genes whose variation confers susceptibility to neurodevelopmental disorders. Dr. Marín is an Elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (UK) and of the Royal Society (UK). His impressive publication record (h index of 69; over 23 500 citations on Google Scholar) includes several influential articles in Nature, Nature Neuroscience and Science.
