Mila et Brian Mulroney
Philantropic Chair
in Diabetes

Established in 2025, through the IRCM Foundation, and with the support of the Honorable Brian Mulroney’s family, among others, the IRCM Mila and Brian Mulroney Philanthropic Chair in Diabetes aims to propel highly promising multidisciplinary and multi-institutional initiatives to help prevent the onset of diabetes, alleviate the individual and social burden of this chronic disease, and ultimately promote a cure.

The Chair focuses on specific forms of diabetes: type 1 diabetes, latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA), and rare forms of diabetes, particularly cystic fibrosis-related diabetes (CFRD).

The purpose of the Chair:

  • To promote mental and physical health among people living with diabetes and their loved ones  through a multidisciplinary approach that includes training to promote independence and well-being.
  • To support innovative research projects to understand the mechanisms of the disease, enable prevention, facilitate screening, reduce the risk of complications, and enable a cure.
  • To support and to train  the next generation of healthcare professionals and researchers.

Health Research Training

To address the entire continuum of care, research, and teaching, the Chair brings together six teams with complementary and synergistic expertise in medicine, nutrition, kinesiology, and molecular biology. These teams are located at the IRCM, the CHUM, the CIUSSS du Nord-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, the Université de Montréal, and McGill University.
