The BETTER Project (www.type1better.com) and the Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM) invite you to discover Low Priority, a fictional short film inspired by the lived experiences of people living with diabetes and experiencing homelessness.

When Bobby, a man living with diabetes, experiences a severe low blood sugar in a shelter bathroom, his journey to the hospital becomes much more than a medical emergency. Through his story, the film sheds light on the stigma, judgment and barriers that people experiencing homelessness may face when seeking diabetes care.

The film was developed based on research and the lived experiences of members of the Calgary Diabetes Advocacy Committee (CDAC) and produced by Dr. David J. T. Campbell, an endocrinologist and researcher at the University of Calgary.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Dr. David J. T. Campbell about the film and the issues surrounding access to care for people living with diabetes and experiencing homelessness.

The film will be presented in English with French subtitles. The discussion and Q&A will be held in both English and French.

About Dr. David J. T. Campbell

David J. T. Campbell, MD, PhD, MSc, FRCPC, is an Associate Professor and Consultant Endocrinologist at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. His research focuses on health services and community-based participatory research, with a particular interest in improving care and health outcomes for people experiencing different forms of social disadvantage.
