The IRCM Congratulates Dr. Rémi Rabasa-Lhoret on Receiving Diabetes Canada's 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award

The Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM) is proud to announce that Dr. Rémi Rabasa-Lhoret, a renowned physician, researcher, and professor, was awarded the 2025 Diabetes Canada Lifetime Achievement Award, Canada's highest distinction in the field of diabetes.

This prestigious award crowns an exceptional career devoted to research, clinical innovation, teaching, and tangible improvement to the lives of people living with diabetes. Through his work on cutting-edge technologies, nutritional approaches, and personalized care models, Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret has advanced science while keeping people at the heart of his concerns.

A researcher and  the Director of the Metabolic Diseases Research Unit as well as the IRCM Diabetes Clinic, he is also an endocrinologist at the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM) and a Full Professor in the Department of Nutrition at the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal, where he plays a key role in training the next generation of scientists and physicians. He also plays an important role at Diabetes Quebec, where he is chair of the professional council.“This award is a well-deserved recognition of Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret's dedication, rigour, and vision. He embodies scientific excellence and commitment to patients, values that we actively cultivate at the IRCM,” said Dr. Jean-François Côté, President and Scientific Director of the IRCM.

"Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret is a physician, teacher, researcher, president of the Professional Council of Diabetes Quebec and, above all, a tireless advocate for the rights of people living with diabetes. His outstanding contributions to the fields of endocrinology, nutrition, and patient care have had a profound and lasting impact, not only on the thousands of lives he has touched directly, but also on the broader landscape of diabetes care in Quebec and elsewhere. This prestigious award is richly deserved. On behalf of the 1.2 million people affected by diabetes in Quebec, I say bravo and thank you," added Mrs. Sylvie Lauzon, President and CEO of Diabetes Quebec.

Highly regarded by his patients, whom he serves tirelessly, Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret combines expertise and humanity like few others. 

At a time when chronic diseases such as diabetes pose growing challenges to our society, this distinction serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting research and recognizing careers that combine science, compassion, and lasting impact.
