Original Title

Physical Activity to Prevent and Treat Hyperglycemia from a Mistimed Bolus Insulin Dose: The MISSED DOSE Study

Brief description

The IRCM clinic is looking for participants to take part in the MISSED DOSE research project. Our study, led by Jane Yardley PhD, aims to examine the effect of combining a late dose of insulin with 15 minutes of moderate intensity walking on glycemic excursion. Blood glucose changes will be examined during and after the consumption of a standardized meal.

Implication

This study involves 4 visits at IRCM that will take place over a maximum of 4months.

  • Inclusion visit: The first visit will be used to sign the consent form, document your medical history and test the standardized meal. This visit will also be an opportunity to answer questionnaires and perform a maximal exercise test. This visit will last approximately 3.5 hours.
  • Intervention visits 2, 3 and 4: The intervention visits will consist of consuming a standardized meal with either i) an early-administered insulin bolus, ii) a late-administered insulin bolus and iii) a late-administered insulin bolus combined with a 15-minute treadmill walk. Each visit will last approximately 3.5 hours.
