Updating pReventive and treatment guidelinEs for Mild hypOglycemia in individuals living with Type 1 diabetes During the erA of continuous gLucose monitoring: The REMODAL trial
Brief description
The IRCM clinic is looking for participants to take part in the REMODAL research project. Our study, led by Dr. Rabasa-Lhoret and his team, aims to investigate the effectiveness of current hypoglycemia treatment recommendations to prevent and manage hypoglycemia during daily life activities or light to moderate physical activities (such as walking, shopping, gardening, etc.), regardless of whether the treatment involves multiple daily injections, an insulin pump, or an automated insulin delivery system.
Implication
This study involves 4 visits to the IRCM over a maximum of 6 months. The first visit (inclusion visit), lasting 2.5 hours, will allow to sign the consent form, document your medical history and perform a few tests and measures. Then, the three intervention visits, lasting maximum 4 hours each, will involve performing a treadmill walking session, during which 3 glycemia thresholds and treatments will be tested:
- Glycemia < 4 mmol/L, treated with 16g of carbohydrates;
- Glycemia ≤ 5 mmol/L, treated with 8g of carbohydrates;
- Glycemia ≤ 5 mmol/L, treated with 16g of carbohydrates.
Inclusion criteria
- Living with type 1 diabetes for more than 1 year
- Be at least 18 years old
- Insulin treatment: multiple injections, insulin pump, or automated insulin delivery system
