A standout thesis

IRCM is proud to highlight the excellence of Vanda Gaonac’H Lovejoy, who has been awarded the Université de Montréal’s prize for the best doctoral thesis in bioinformatics for the current academic year.

This distinction, presented to the graduate who has most distinguished themselves during their doctoral studies, reflects the outstanding quality of her work and her exceptional scientific commitment.

It is worth noting that Vanda Gaonac’H Lovejoy recently successfully completed her PhD training within the teams of Dr. Martin Sauvageau and Dr. Martin Smith. During this time, she developed new analytical approaches and machine-learning tools that advance our understanding of structure–function relationships and the molecular grammar of non-coding RNAs—an area offering great promise for the development of new therapies. Her thesis, entitled “Fiction or Function: Revealing conserved RNA structures in mammalian genomes,” impressed the jury.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Vanda on this remarkable achievement and wish her a career that lives up to this brilliant accomplishment. We are proud to count you among us!
