The IRCM at the Heart of RNA Advances in Quebec

The Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM) salutes the announcement of a major support for the AReNA initiative and innovative projects led by its research teams, issued by the Government of Quebec through the  Quebec Life Sciences Strategy (SQSV).

This support reflects the remarkable momentum of Quebec’s RNA sector, the mobilization of its stakeholders, and the crucial role of the IRCM at the center of Quebec’s biomedical innovation ecosystem.

Indeed, two of the funded projects draw directly on the expertise of Dr. Martin Sauvageau and his team at the IRCM, highlighting the Institute’s central role in the development of innovative RNA-based therapies.

At the IRCM, this work focuses in particular on:

  • A new method for the purification and chemical synthesis of therapeutic oligonucleotides

Led by Galenvs Sciences in collaboration with Dr. Martin Sauvageau at the IRCM, this project aims to address two major challenges in bioproduction: the large-scale purification and the compatibility of new chemistries with solid-phase synthesis. It will enable the production of complex oligonucleotide therapies of high quality  at lower cost, supporting the accelerated development of next-generation RNA therapeutics in Quebec.  Learn more.

  • The creation and high-throughput optimization of lipid nanoparticles for intestinal delivery

Led by Nanofacile, at the IRCM, this project aims to develop an innovative and scalable platform for the formulation, characterization, and rapid screening of nanoparticles for targeted RNA delivery. Building on Nanofacile’s existing technology, this platform will integrate new features enabling high-throughput assessment of formulation quality and efficacy, and will demonstrate its potential to target intestinal cells using advanced human organoid models developed by NEIGES Biotechnologies.  Learn more.

These advances are rooted in the cutting-edge research conducted at the IRCM, which continues to drive and shape innovation in this strategic field.

“The IRCM is proud to actively contribute to this collective effort by placing science and the excellence of its its researchers’s excellence at the service of major advances in health,” said  Dr. Jean François Côté, President and Scientific Director of the IRCM.

Congratulations to Dr. Sauvageau and his teams for this impactful work!
